Gracie Abrams’ sophmore album, The Secret of Us, released in June and has been on repeat ever since. This album is more vibrant and social in comparison to her previous album and EPs. The lyricism and musicality of these songs give listeners a taste of the joy and enthusiasm that went into the creation process of the final product.
My Top Three Songs
Blowing Smoke
Blowing Smoke was immediately my favourite off of the album. The theme of bitter teenage envy paired with the lighthearted sound has made this a favourite of many other fans as well. The imagery that comes to mind with the mentioned lyric is so beautiful and contrasts others as it shows the singer’s intense appreciation for her previous lover. I especially love the vocals in the outro as “hey, hey, hey, hey” is repeatedly shouted out in the background.
“I know what you are, brighter than the stars
Blowing Smoke, Gracie Abrams
Tell me if she takes you far”
“And all I ever did was consider you
I Knew It, I Know You, Gracie Abrams
Until all I could do was consider me”
I Knew It, I Know You
While the charming guitar in this song initially drew me in, its the storyline that really brings it home. The majority of I Knew It, I Know You reflects back on a past loved one who was not mature enough to support a healthy relationship. However, there is a short reprieve from this narrative in the bridge where the singer is willing to forgive if the other person showed some newfound sense of maturity. The song then cascades into a delicate outro that represents reflection and the singer’s own self-growth.
us. (feat. Taylor Swift)
As track 5 of the album, it was clear from the start that this song would be incredible. Seeing Gracie perform in stadiums and connect personally with her idol, Taylor Swift, while opening the Eras tour filled myself and other fans with pride and excitement for her career; this song was the product of their friendship and incredible talents as artists. The imagery hidden within the lyrics is so pretty and makes it a very powerful song. The mentioned quote brings an element of magic in and gives a dramatic weight to the song’s meaning. This track contains the album title and ties everything together in a lovely way. This is a favourite of mine not only because of the song itself, but because of the significance behind the collab and excitement shown in the final product.
“The curse or a miracle, hearse or an oracle”
us. (feat. Taylor Swift), Gracie Abrams

The release of The Secret of Us was the perfect way to start this summer. This is the kind of versatile album I have and will continue to play in the car with the windows down, in my room with a candle lit, or in the kitchen while cooking. I adore everything she creates and I can’t wait to see where this album takes Gracie in her career!
All the love,
Grace
