I went on a super spur-of-the-moment trip to the Bruce Peninsula with my dad a couple weeks ago and had so much fun. While I am going to write about all the things I did while camping, I am mostly just excited to share the pictures I took! I had such a fun time trying to capture the weekend in a way that shows how it felt and I hope you can feel that too! I would definitely say it is my favourite camping trip I’ve been on. Although it was pretty chaotic due to the lack of planning, we both had a really good time.
For some context, we were planning to book a weekend near the end of August, but we didn’t plan far enough ahead for that. On the Thursday before the August long weekend, we called the park and were able to secure only a single night at Bruce Peninsula National Park, which happened to be the next day. So, we rushed to pack and plan, eventually deciding to stay off-site for Saturday and Sunday night.
After a nearly 5 hour drive, we arrived at the gates at 10:30 PM (bad planning, we know). The office was closed, so we walked 1km in with all of gear, got a little lost, then finally found our site and set up camp. After checking in at 8 AM, we found out we couldn’t use the park for the entire day and instead had to be out by 11 AM (more bad planning). So, we weren’t able to do quite what we were hoping for in the national park. BUT we were able to hit the highlights, which included The Grotto! It actually ended up being the perfect amount of time to walk there, look around, and head back. My only regret was not having time to swim in the gorgeous teal water!! ↴

📍 Tobermory

After we left at 11 AM, we headed to the town of Tobermory to look around and have lunch before driving an hour South to our second campsite. The town was super pretty. I tried gelato (oh my god), which was so so so good. I got passionfruit and salted caramel and I think about it every day still. We also hung out around the marina for a while and watched the boats (my dad’s choice).

We got to our second site and took some time to relax and set things up (in daylight!). In the morning, we climbed the Sydney Bluffs. The hike wasn’t too long, but it was a bit of a rough climb up to the top. It also had a bunch of super pretty lookouts! ↴

We decided to take a bit of an unplanned detour and check out Sauble beach, which ended up being my favourite part of the trip! I had never been before, but I absolutely loved the area (I felt like I was in TSITP). I got some icecream (tried mango flavour for the first time, loved it) at a shop in the town. We set up, layed in the sun for a while, and went into the water. The waves made it SO fun, I had such a good time. I would definitely go back there, despite the long drive. ↴

This was 100% a trip I would love love love to take again, maybe with some friends! I would do it nearly the same, making sure to hit both Tobermory/Bruce Peninsula National Park and Sauble Beach. I would also book ahead!! I really want to go back just to swim in the crystal clear and teal water up in Tobermory. Another place I would definitely revist is the gelato shop near the marina, it was so good.
This was a fun post and I love being able to talk about what I did on this trip. I also love sharing photos that I took, as I’ve been getting a little more into photography (at a very amateur/casual level)!
All the love,
Grace
